Restarting Timers
When you press Start on a stopped time entry, your personal Timer restart behavior setting decides whether Keito continues that row or creates another one.
Change it under Settings → Preferences → Timer restart behavior. The choice affects future restarts only; it does not rewrite existing time entries.
Continue the Same Entry
Choose Continue the same entry when you want one row to hold the total time spent across several work sessions.
Keito:
- Restarts the selected row.
- Adds each completed timer segment to that row’s accumulated duration.
- Shows the start and end times of the latest segment.
- Uses the accumulated duration in timesheets, reports, approvals, and invoices.
Because the row can contain more than one segment, its accumulated duration can be longer than the window between the displayed start and end times. That difference is expected and does not mean the earlier time is billed twice.
For example, start at 09:00 and stop at 09:30, then restart the same entry at 10:00 and stop at 10:20:
| Result | Start / end shown | Duration used in totals |
|---|---|---|
| One continued entry | 10:00–10:20 | 0:50 |
When you edit an accumulated entry, Keito preserves its total if you only change fields such as the project, task, billability, or notes. Changing either the start or end time deliberately replaces the accumulated total with the duration of the selected window.
Create a New Entry
Choose Create a new entry when every work session should have its own row and matching start/end window.
Keito:
- Leaves the stopped entry unchanged.
- Creates a running entry at the current time with the same project, task, notes, billability, and supported linked work item.
- Records the new session independently.
- Adds both rows to timesheets, reports, approvals, and invoices.
Using the same example:
| Result | Start / end shown | Duration used in totals |
|---|---|---|
| First entry | 09:00–09:30 | 0:30 |
| New restarted entry | 10:00–10:20 | 0:20 |
Which Setting Should I Use?
- Use Continue the same entry for a compact total per piece of work when you do not need each session represented by a separate row.
- Use Create a new entry when clients, auditors, or internal processes expect every row’s duration to match its own start and end times.
If you switch frequently between tasks, Create a new entry usually provides the clearest session-by-session audit trail.
